Flash Fall

Week long online performance and text documentation. An internet adaptation of Magritte, Bas Jan Ader, Yves Klein, Tehching Hsieh.

“I want to try the experiment myself and without trickery, as I intend to prove the worth of my invention.” Franz Reichelt

A daily attempt to bring together a group of avatars on the virtual world of Second Life in jumping off the reconstruction of the Eiffel Tower, the longest drop in Second Life which results in the fragmentation and collapse of Second Life’s three dimensional rendering on the way down.

All interactions with other avatars were recorded. The nature of memes and group activities online, and how best to orchestrate a virtual crowd was discussed, as well as the uncanny binding of the physical self in relation to an online avatar.
